8th July 25. Chesterfield
First job today is to take the MG collected yesterday in Swansea to the prep centre in Leighton Buzzard, only a 20-30 minutes drive from home. I left just after 7am to arrive at my usual time getting there for collecting cars. Today however Mr Jobsworth on the gate informs me that deliveries are only accepted from 8.00am. A short discussion later and he let's me in and I do my appraisal, photos and someone signed for it without anything issues at 7.40. how easy was that? Esp

4th July 25.
After yesterday, today, although back to normal. It was still a day of reflection. Maybe it's my age, maybe it's the amount of driving I do. I've said it before but doing between 5 and 6,000 miles a month. You just roll the dice more often than normal people. But I love this work. The travel seeing places I haven't been to meeting people who are pleased to see you, mostly. It really is a great life doing this. Despite everything. And life is for living. They say, the French "

3rd July 25. A Day Like No Other.
After a day off yesterday to view a house and spend time with my wife. Back to work today to collect a car for my independent car site customer just outside Aylesbury. I expected the day to start well, so full of positivity, blue skies, sunshine, and an easy job but it turned into a horrific day. The train to the east London Volvo dealership to collect the trade 2016 Hyundai Tucson Was simple enough Aylesbury to London Marylebone, tube to London bridge then train to New Elth

1st July 25. New Month Starts
A nice easy start to the new month was a job delivering a 2021 Mercedes GLA to a retail customer near Godstone in Surrey from Mercedes Benz Aylesbury. There was a part exchange to come back so a gentle start to the month and no public transport required. I collected the Mercedes around 10am a short wait needed to finish the cleaning of the car. Appraisal done on the app the job was taken from. Which means photographs not available because they're automatically uploaded to the

30th June 25. Freebie
I had been asked to give a price to collect a car personally for the manager of one of my customers sites. He needed a Volvo XC90 collected from Bournemouth area. A car his family had bought as a cheap runaround for a visiting family member. I decided quickly, this was to be done free of charge for all the work they have given me since I started doing this. So this was a pleasure to help out with. I was also asked, last minute, as it was month end, I expected it anyway. To de

29th June 25. Sunday!!!
One of my customers had asked me a few weeks ago if I could deliver a car to a retail customer today, Sunday. I had nothing planned so agreed, as it was only going to London SW17, Wimbledon/ Tooting to be exact. 2015 Mercedes E 220 d I left early as usual to arrive at the customers address for around 9.00am . Which I had agreed with the dealership to inform their customer. Of course I arrived at the address and rang the doorbell to find them still in bed at 9.30. They came o

28th June 25 Saturday Again?
Yes working a Saturday again. Delivering the Hyundai Kona I collected yesterday. It was only going to Northwood, in North London so an early start not required. The car wasn't ready yesterday in that it wasn't charged at at..so as well as that having to be done last night. I also had to tax the car. It was going to an elderly customer and I knew they would perhaps struggle to tax it as it needed to be done at the post office with the V5 and a V62 DVLA form to change the car f

27th June 25. Why? Friday again.
Why do I do it. Learn to say no !! Friday is always a busy afternoon on the roads and I always try and avoid doing too much. So, why, did I today agree to do two jobs and collect a third car for delivery tomorrow. Which is a Saturday? It's not that I can't say no. It's because I don't like to let my customer down. As I said yesterday. There's no loyalty in this business so saying no, simply means they will find someone else. And it's a horrible but simple fact that, someone e

26th June 25. Simple day
Just the one job today. To deliver the green Ford Puma ST I collected yesterday to a private customer in Chandlers Ford, near Southampton. Bringing back the customers part exchange so no trains, no public transport, no cost, and in theory you get paid for both jobs. I do however, depending on my customer. Give a 25% discount for the return job. I know I'm all heart. This job is about building a relationship with your customer. Doing the job without fuss or problems, always do

25th June 25. London!
A kind of, day off today, as my wife and I wanted to go to Whitechapel, Spittalfields area of London to eat some Brazilian Barbecue meat from the streetfood area just outside the old Spittalfields Market. There is a choice of other stalls, one being a very good Indian stall. But we always, and, naturally, given Alda's Brazilian roots. We go for the simple smokey BBQ beef stall. Her knowledge of Brazilian Barbecue cooking made her try the meat first and ask how it's cooked and

24th June 25
After the lucky break yesterday when I got a job from Oxford to deliver a Motability return to a dealer in Worksop. It was a very low mileage, below 4500 actually. 2020 Ford Kuga. So it got me home yesterday from Oxford and today, it will get me a stone throw away from Barnsley and the job I had for collection today and deliver to Aylesbury.. So leaving in time to get to Worksop for 9.00am. which meant a six o'clock start and drove the 129 miles and actually arrived around 8

23rd June 25. Bad Start, Great Ending.
Not sure how today ended so well. Starting early to get to Warrington for the collection of a Kia Sportage to go to my customer in Oxford. I took the much cheaper planned route from Aylesbury to the north west via Princess Risborough, Leamington Spa, Coventry and then Warrington. Starting at 05.37am Rather than going into London and back out from Euston station. A lot more expensive than way. At this time of the morning there is no staff at the station. So I didn't have to lo

20th June 25. A Simple Day
Today is one of those days that a simple job. Taken because it's Friday and I like to get finished at noon or close as possible to it. But it just doesn't go to plan as required. The day started as a normal collection from the prep centre in Leighton Buzzard. But today the car was blocked in by around 20 cars and I had to wait for help to dig it out. Of course, then it was dirty. So had to wait until it was cleaned. All the time trying to avoid the staff in the photo area and

19th June 25 Glorious Heat
Only one job today. But a long one. Firstly a train from Aylesbury to Doncaster. So, time to take the laptop and do some work on route . First leg of the journey is from Aylesbury to Marylebone Station. Then to Baker Street Baker Street underground either walking or by underground to take the District or Circle line to King's Cross. King's Cross Station I always love the London stations. Wondering where everyone is going or coming from. On a weekday it's great. People know w
