4th July 25.

Updated: Dec 31, 2025

After yesterday, today, although back to normal. It was still a day of reflection. Maybe it's my age, maybe it's the amount of driving I do. I've said it before but doing between 5 and 6,000 miles a month. You just roll the dice more often than normal people. But I love this work. The travel seeing places I haven't been to meeting people who are pleased to see you, mostly.

It really is a great life doing this. Despite everything. And life is for living.

They say, the French "work to live" Not , "live to work" I say "work and live" both together. Do something you enjoy. My whole life I have always refused to do a job I hated. I've been very lucky.

Today's job is an internal transfer between two sites collecting a 2022 Volvo XC90 from Mercedes in Aylesbury and delivering it to Exeter. Luckily I was able to collect the car before closing last night so I could leave early this morning which always helps.

It's my first time driving a new shape Volvo XC90 having driven the old one a few days ago and finding how agricultural that was.

The new one was a great improvement. Obviously more comfortable slightly bigger the technology obviously. Newer but there was still that feel about it driving it that long distance while comfortable. It never felt like a car. It always felt like a big utility vehicle.

The journey from Aylesbury to Exeter was I have to say very comfortable. Radio on talksport. Listening to the aftermath of yesterday's horrible news. It was almost addictive to listen to in a horrible way I suppose. But as a Liverpool fan It had to be done.

It was a 3 and 1/2 hour journey at that time of day leaving around 5:30 to arrive at 9:00 or as close to as possible.

Dropping off the Volvo 9:00 a.m. meant I could relax a little and take the short walk to Marsh Barton station. And find find the next train to get me eventually to Newport in South Wales.

The station at Marsh Barton is very close to what looks like a power station.

The blue sky in bright sunshine lent itself to a couple of dramatic photos.

The journey from here to Newport went via Exeter St David's station. It takes a while but getting there early meant I could relax and enjoy the train journey along the South Wales coast.

I was going to Newport to collect a 2024 Kia Stonic. Which was a motability return and I had a few days in which to deliver it so it was a way to get me home.

So I took a few photos at Exeter St David's and Newport station.

Once at Newport Station I summoned an Uber to take me to the dealer to collect the car which unusually was left out on the road. Knowing these cars are not taxed, it's very strange. In any case for a dealer to leave a piece of stock out on the road no matter who owns it.

Anyway, appraisal done. I had enough time to relax into the journey from Newport back to Aylesbury.

A good day today. Two very good paying jobs and home safely.
