Today started by dropping off the car to my regular customer in Aylesbury that I collected from Huddersfield during yesterday's very good day. Today turned out just as well planned. As then I had a very short two minutes walk from there to Mercedes Benz Aylesbury to collect a car going from there to BMW Bridgewater in Somerset.

The car was a BMW i4 M50. I love old BMW's I have two 90s E36 convertibles. However I am also a lover of new technology and this being an X-drive version I was looking forward to driving it. Albeit I am always at my age very careful with other people's cars.
Having completed the appraisal thoroughly and uploaded it. I was ready to try and get a handle on the amount of tech in this vehicle.

Having worked for BMW only helped a little in understanding the very basics of how it all works. Entered the destination into the satellite navigation system. Connected my phone. Which automatically and without a cable asked me if I wanted to use Android auto. I chose to as then I could go through my music app and hear the premium sound system via my hi-fi music app Tidal. I have been a Tidal user pretty much since it started and having changed from a Sony Xperia mobile phone for the first time. Due to the backwards step the Xperia 1-6 was. I always used Sony phones for two reasons. The first being that I enjoy photography and videography and nothing else comes close on a phone. Sony do make progress cameras for Hollywood movie makers after all.
The second is, again, who else but Sony is an expert in music playback. They pretty much invented mobile music devices and still have the best with the professional Walkman series. So the sound quality given the Bluetooth connection limitations was superb in the car . However,

One thing about electric cars is the lack of engine noise. Not so in this beast. No less a person than Hans Zimmer was involved in the production of the faux engine sound in this version of the I4.
It really did sound amazing. When you put this car in sports mode. Not only does it make it the equal of an M car for performance. The X-drive system delivery of power to whatever wheel needs it makes this one of the fastest A to B cars IV ever driven. For 99.9% of people this is quicker than an M3. But.
I'm not sure I would buy one. Because one day I'd find a corner that could be taken quicker in a manual gearbox M3 or M2 And that one fact would annoy me. Even if I never found that one corner. It's still in the mind. Money no object, I would have the £100k + M5 that was in the showroom

I didn't drive this car anything like I wished to. But you could tell it's potential. It's awesome. Blindingly fast. Corners on rails. Has amazing technology, comfort and makes you smile. Well done BMW
But I still love to drive my E36 328i 😁
