10th April 25. Leicester and Back.

Updated: Sep 9, 2025

A fairly short day after a day off yesterday. Well not really a day off. But today I worked from home to start the Just1idea@work project.

The train to Leicester to collect a Vauxhall Insignia from MG dealership there meant Going the cross country route firstly and early start from Aylesbury to Princess Risborough. A quick one stop to Haddenham and Thame Parkway. Change their to Leamington Spa. Then to Nuneaton and then Leicester. Sounds like a lot of changes but it's never a rush and quite a simple journey.

But a beautiful sunny day and the sights of the British railways always interesting.

A very cheap Uber as they always are here to find the MG dealership. Which the trade sales was run by one man who obviously ran the site and did the images too. And he ran it well. Brilliantly organised and the car was ready to go.

I did however get a chance to see for the first time the new MG Cybester EV convertible close up.

Looks like a great car and for the price amazing value. However I don't think it would replace my 1996 328i yet. Or at all..

The Insignia was actually in amazing condition for it's age. Actually not a mark ethe car and nothing to note on the appraisal at all. Not even a wheel scuff.

This would be my first actual drive in a Vauxhall Insignia. Not sure why. Just never really either wanted to or needed to.

I was surprised how good, if a little aged..the car was. Drove well enough it was an aged and soon to be obsolete 2.0 CDTi so a diesel. And again had enough fuel to get back. Maybe this is why I enjoyed it. Having driven thousands of cars for millions of miles since I was 13. Most cars. Don't do anything other than proving a nice living now.

Having owned and driven supercars when you could actually drive them in anger. I have my favourites and know that some of them just attract unwanted attention.

One time in 1999, I had a 355 Spyder. An amazing drive when on the right road. But not a car for the city

Certainly not Guildford anyway. Having parked it to go to the bank.(Probably to explain myself). I had parked with the nose of the car slightly on top of, but not over, a white line marking a taxi area. Well this obviously touched a nerve of a taxi driver. He waited for me to get back in the car.. before starting to whine about it.

Obviously my colourful worded reply didn't help and he decided to punch me while I sat in the car.

Stupid really he had no idea who our drivers and security were for the sports car hire company I owned.

And the Ferrari being owned by an unknown parent company. But his taxi having all his details and phone number on it meant it wasn't long before he was noticed in Guildford again and "spoken to"

Anyway. The point being. I prefer to drive small inconspicuous cars . Really always have.

So the Insignia was driven out to the M1 and South to the Milton Keynes junction and then tested round the Various roundabouts there and onto Aylesbury.

I was surprised how well it drove. Before leavng it for my good customer there .
