My busiest day so far since starting this little enterprise I had six jobs and four of them subcontracted out to other people who I now trust. Finding those people has been a very difficult learning curve. I will tell you about two really awful experiences when I recap last year. Coming soon..
Let's get the four jobs I didn't do , out of the way.
One was a collection from BCA Doncaster going to my customer in Aylesbury. The second a Kia Sportage collection from Cardiff, going to Oxford. Next was a 2018 VW T-Roc collected from Chesterfield and going to Aylesbury. The last job was a retail delivery of a Ford Transit from Aylesbury going to Bridlington, Yorkshire.
Those jobs were ongoing organisational headaches throughout the day. While I was up at 5.00am leaving at 5.45 to deliver a Citroen C1, I collected last night from Oxford going to a retail customer in Taunton.
I had spoken to the customer last night to make sure it was ok to arrive around 9.00am and I actually arrived at 8.30 did my appraisal and photos. Got the paperwork signed and the customer was delighted. He had owned a C1 previously so declined my usual offer to run through the car. He also very kindly offered to take me to the station. Which really helped my day. If fact, that time saved really did help later on.

From Taunton station I was going to Bodmin, in Cornwall. Luckily there was one direct train at 9.45 Taking just over two hours.

The train journey was amazing.. taking in coastlines just passed Exeter onto Plymouth and beyond.

Arriving at Bodmin Parkway the only problem now was the complete lack of any Uber
Totally in the hands of the hated local cab companies. I eventually found one to take me to the dealership for the collection of the car going back to Oxford, hopefully today!
Eventually arriving at the dealership. I found them very friendly and helpful.
The Toyota C-HR was brought round and a quick call to authorise payment and appraisal done. I then waited. And waited.
Why in 2026 does it take accounts departments and hour, sometimes more. To make an online transfer?
While waiting I spotted an old Nissan Micra in the showroom.

The 1993 Micra was an automatic and had only done 19,000 miles. It wasn't for sale.
The Toyota was eventually paid for. After a nice long chat with the sales manager about the current state of the business.
I finally got underway on my long drive to Oxford.

It said 4 hours. But actually took around 5.
Having left eventually at 1.30pm
The A30 was quiet and quicker than I thought.
My timing was showing arrival time of 18.40 to start. So I thought it was impossible to get to Oxford for closing time. So I set for home. The traffic was light all the way and I got to the M5 at Exeter in good time. As I came off the M5 I was showing an arrival time in Oxford of 6:20. So I called on the off chance that somebody might be there after closing time and luckily somebody said they would hang on for me. This was good news as it cleared my day for tomorrow without having to go to Oxford again.
I eventually arrived at the dealership in Oxford at 18.15.
Did my quick appraisal, had it signed off? The no 3 bus arrived quickly to take me into Oxford and I didn't have long to wait for the X20 to Aylesbury and eventually got home around 7. 50pm

That was a very long, but a very rewarding day. It's always good to go places that you haven't been before and some of the scenery from the train was well worth the journey.
And I get paid for it.
