Yesterday's new arrival, the BMW 318 was quickly added to my trade insurance. For the drive north. I know buying a 29 year old car and taking it on a 700 mile round trip the next day is madness to some. Actually all.
But I have confidence in the BMW and a few short journeys yesterday only bolstered that confidence that today would be ok. Wouldn't it?

I couldn't have been more correct in this assumption. The car drove brilliantly. It was a smooth and very comfortable drive and arrived in our first stop in Carlisle thinking we could easily turn round immediately and drive home without feeling exhausted. What an amazing car.
Ok as a convertible with a cloth roof it's not quiet. But only a little wind noise from the top of the doors where the frameless windows seal on the roof. The car is perfectly dry inside. Which, again for a 29 year old convertible is actually incredible. Especially after the almost 2 years of non stop rain we've had.
The car handled another day of heavy rain with aplomb. Driving straight and true though motorway standing water. Coped with the spray from trucks ok. This being a very small car in todays traffic.
Driving this reminds me of the promotional material and advertising of BMW in the 80s and 90s
The ergonomics being a very focal point of the attraction and advertising of this car.
All the controls are to hand with nothing more than you actually need and most of all, the seats and seating position is impeccable. Straight without having to compromise
