15th February 25. To Bridlington and Back

Updated: Sep 24, 2025

I had collected the Nissan X-TRAIL from my customer in Aylesbury last night to get an early start today to deliver their sold car to their customer in Bridlington A seaside town on the north eastern coast of England. Going solo on this Saturday as the cost of two train tickets back to Aylesbury, completely outwaid, the possibility of spending time in another run down English seaside place. I'm sure they have an attraction for a lot of people. And that's the thing that makes them places to avoid. That "lot of people." Being, not so much the number of them, but the type. Mostly elderly, or chavvy younger ones. I need to get out more. I really do.

But, I don't like the beach unless I can walk on one quietly. Or in a hot non touristy country.

So an early drive to Bridlington was going to be around 3 and a half hours so set off in time to arrive, or rather, depart. Around 9.00 to 9.30am

The customer was called in advance to arrange and I found their address easy enough. The customer must have decided to not dress properly to receive her new car . But decided, as happens a lot to copy a lot of younger people and go about their business still in dressing gowns or pyjamas. She signed for the car. Paid me for the delivery. A nice touch from my customer to let them pay directly to me.

She then offered to take me to the station. Which is always welcome.

Being a consummate professional. I never ever, ask for help from customers. However some very gentle wording sometimes triggers the person to offer. Never say no. Time and money!!!

Taken to Bridlington station I had a long train journey ahead via, Doncaster (7 stops away) then a wait for the King's Cross train.

This is where my day was made. Arriving at Doncaster station. I was met by platforms full of people obviously waiting for something or someone armed with some very expensive camera equipment and tripods. This is where my intuition kicks in.

All the people looked and dressed in a similar in a kind of way that only pointed to the word "Trainspotter"

Having no idea why these people were there or what they were waiting for. I was actually pleasantly surprised about 10 minutes later with the passing. Very quickly of a steam train . I did catch the end of it below

So having past the people dispersed quickly and I jumped on the train to London which arrived shortly after.

A few hours later arriving at Kings Cross then a quick, or as quick as possible due to the station's being full of weekend civilians, clueless about how to use the public transport system and especially the London underground. They travel in numbers, carry too much luggage. And always stop at the wrong place. Bottom and top of escalators, door entrances. Stairs are always a puzzle for these Fu****s and they obviously cannot read.

So arrived at King's Cross. Tried to avoid, and failed to do so, as many people as possible on the tube. Got to Marylebone station and boarded the Aylesbury train home .
