24th Jan 2025 Buses aren't all bad

Updated: Aug 25

Today's job starts in Oxford. So I decided in the interest of saving money to take the X20 bus from Aylesbury to Oxford. Something I always tried to avoid. Yes I'm over 60. But I don't really want to look and start feeling it, by travelling on a bus. But it's direct and actually a little quicker and a lot less costly than the train. The train to Oxford is a time consuming job which entails going from Aylesbury railway station to Princess Risborough, changing platform and waiting for the next Oxford train. Which sometimes gets packed with obnoxious shoppers going to and from Bicester Village shopping centre.

So having walked from the bus stop in Oxford to the Peugeot dealer which is a pleasant 20 minutes walk past the actual track Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile. My brain had a senior moment and I thought I was going to the same dealership. Oxford Kia, though Is actually on the same road. Hence my thinking. It's actually about half a mile further. So, by the time I arrived I was ready to sit in a nice comfortable Kia Sportage for a few hours. I collected EO74VSL a black Sportage GT-line with a manual gearbox. And started to drive back to Aylesbury to collect Alda, my wife, who was coming to keep me company on the trip to Southend.

We travelled and chatted the whole way, which made the journey seem quicker than it should be. We arrived at Burnham on Crouch and I dropped Alda at the bus stop and took the car to the customer, who along with her husband were welcoming and very happy to see the car they had obviously saved for and decided on. Their previous car being an older Ford Focus they had from new for 14 years.

I love customer's like this. Hard working people who have saved and spent a lot of money for them on a new car and were delighted to receive it. A great pleasure to see.

Unlike a lot of people who care little for the money or car and get things far too easily.. "What you get for nothing has no value"

Once finished I walked to get Alda from the bus stop and we decided to have a nice walk to Burnham on Crouch train station to go to Wickford station and via an Uber, which was a new BMW 530e very nice. to go to the huge dealer area that Toomey's have, to collect the Range Rover Evoque. to deliver tomorrow on Saturday. We decided, however to do most of the drive to Taunton that evening and have an early start tomorrow morning. Actually getting all the way to Taunton. Having booked a Travelodge on route. We arrived about 21.00 and booked in after eating something horrible at the services before bed.
